Track and Field Dazzles at Kent State Gala

The Ashland University men's and women's track and field teams completed their second and final day of the Kent State Golden Flash Gala on Saturday afternoon (Dec. 6).

A handful of Eagles placed highly in the men's shot put. Elijah Talk placed second (56-feet-2 1/2), Jason Zahn tallied third (55-feet-2), and Zac Papay collected fourth with a throw of 54-feet-10 1/4.

In women's shot put, Jamie Sindelar took home the crown with a throw of 51-feet-7 3/4. Shatora Lewis took second with a throw of 47-feet-10, and Megan Tomei collected a fifth-place finish (44-feet-4 3/4) for the Eagles.

Senior Elijha Owens finished second in the men's 60-meter hurdles (7.98 seconds) and third in the 60-meter dash (7.01).

Junior Jacob Green placed third in men's high jump with a jump of 6-feet-4 3/4.

In the men's 1,000-meter run, Ashland's Joshua Davis placed first with a time of 2:33.33.

Senior Eagle Jennifer Foster won the women's high jump with a leap of 5-feet-10.5, while sophomore Rebecca Koval was fourth at 5-feet-5.

In the women's 400-meter dash, freshman Irene Skinner claimed the top spot by crossing the line in 55.35 seconds. On the men's side, freshman Halen Witcher took fourth in 50.05 seconds.

Junior Jillian Bajaksouzian won the women's 3,000-meter run in 10:31.95, while junior Kylee Bernthisel was fifth (10:50.21), and Brandon Mesnard took third in the men's 3,000 meter run in 8:49.71.

In the men's 4x400 relay, the combo of Owens, Brandon Freeman, Witcher and Waquiem Comar finished in second place with a time of 3:20.02. The women's 4x400 relay of Skinner, sophomore Nuri Lee, senior Joyce Badertscher and junior Abby Strock was fifth in 3:58.37.

Sophomore Austin Borton was fourth (1:22.21) in the women's 500 dash, sophomore Molly Scott was fourth (3:07.61) in the women's 1,000-meter run and freshman Haley Gregory was fourth (9.00) in the women's 60-meter hurdles.

Freshman Trent Balduff was tied for fifth in the men's unseeded pole vault (13-feet-7 1/4).

The Eagles will next compete on January 16th in the Northwest Ohio Invite at the University of Findlay.
