Ashland University seniors Zac Ball and Jessica Bridenthal are this week's Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference male and female Field Athletes of the Week, respectively.
Bridenthal set a new school record in the women's weight throw Friday (Jan. 9) at the Ohio State Buckeye Classic, turning in a top effort of 68-feet-9, which also won the weight throw at the Classic and earned her an automatic spot at the NCAA Division II Indoor Track and Field National Championships, March 13-14 in Birmingham, Ala.
That mark also is the best in women's Division II competition in 2014-15.
Ball also turned in an automatic national qualifying mark on Friday, as his top effort of 71-feet-10 in the men's weight throw also is the top mark in men's Division II competition so far this season.
Ashland's men's and women's indoor track and field teams will compete on Friday (Jan. 16) at the Northwest Ohio Invitational in Findlay.
