Ashland University's men's and women's indoor track and field teams got another automatic Division II nationals-qualifying effort and six more provisional qualifying marks Friday (Jan. 16) at the Northwest Ohio Invitational at the University of Findlay.
Junior Jamie Sindelar was second in the women's shot put with a nationals-qualifying distance of 52-feet-0. In the men's weight throw, four Eagles – sophomore Jordan Crayon (third, 65-feet-4¾), sophomore Bryn Campbell (fourth, 61-feet-7¾), sophomore Clayton Jury (fifth, 59-feet-9½) and junior Jared Whitcomb (sixth, 56-feet-8) – earned provisional-qualifying marks.
Senior Elijha Owens had the biggest day for Ashland on Friday, provisionally qualifying for the 60-meter hurdles with a first-place effort of 8.03, and also finishing first in the 300-meter dash in 34.83. Owens also was part of the winning 4x400-meter relay team which also featured freshman Halen Witcher, junior Brandon Freeman and senior Waquiem Comar and finished in 3:22.76.
Finally, sophomore Jason Zahn turned in a provisional mark in the shot put, finishing fourth with a distance of 54-feet-10¼.
On the men's side, Witcher was first in the 200-meter dash (23.07), junior Eric Thompkins won the 60-meter dash (7.05) and freshman Lucas Ball was first in the pole vault (14-feet-11).
On the women's side, seniors Jennifer Foster and Meghan Cunningham were 1-2 in the pole vault with matching efforts of 11-feet-5¾, junior Jillian Bajaksouzian took the mile run in 5:12.62 and freshmen Irene Skinner (60-meter dash, 7.91) and Taylor Looby (60-meter hurdles, 9.12) also won events.
Both AU track and field teams return to action on Friday, Jan. 23 at the Youngstown State Open.
