Eagles Continue Impressive Indoor Season In Geneva

Ashland University's indoor track and field teams competed Saturday (Jan. 24) at the SPIRE North Coast Indoor Track & Field Open, and they continued to see both automatic and provisional efforts for the 2015 NCAA Division II Championships.

The Eagle men received two more provisional efforts in the weight throw from seniors Mack Taylor (63-feet-1½) and James Clay Harris (62-feet-8). That now gives Ashland throwers six of the top 10 efforts in the Division II weight throw so far this season.

Ashland senior Shatora Lewis' first-place showing of 68-feet-3¼ in the weight throw also was an automatic qualifying mark.

Ashland's women also had first-place efforts turned in by senior Jennifer Foster in the high jump (1.75 meters), junior Jamie Sindelar in the shot put (15.13 meters), sophomore Jillian Bajaksouzian in the 1-mile run (5:11.44), freshman Irene Skinner in the 200-meter dash (25.33), sophomore Linda Morales in the 5,000-meter run (19:49.08) and by the 4x400-meter relay team of freshman Haley Gregory, junior Victoria Beverly, sophomore Jackie Genetin and junior Abby Strock (4:00.89).

Senior Drew Windle turned in a provisional qualifying time of 48.52 in the 400-meter dash, which was a first-place effort on Saturday. First-place showings on the men's side came from sophomore Elijah Talk in the shot put (16.03 meters), junior David Knack in the 3,000-meter run (8:29.20), junior Eric Thompkins in the 60-meter dash (6.99), senior Brandon Mesnard in the 5,000-meter run (15:29.70) and by the 4x400-meter relay team of senior Waquiem Comar, freshman Halen Witcher, junior Brandon Freeman and Windle (3:23.05).

Ashland University Strength and Conditioning Coach A.G. Kruger won the weight throw with a top mark of 22.29 meters.

The Eagles will compete next week in both the Findlay Open (Jan. 30) and the Penn State National meet (Jan. 30-31).
