Windle Qualifies For Nationals In 800 Meters At Penn State

A select group of Ashland University runners competed in Day 2 of the Penn State National meet on Saturday (Jan. 31), and the Eagles came away with an automatic nationals-qualifying effort and two provisional marks.

Senior Drew Windle, the two-time USTFCCCA Men's Indoor Track and Field Athlete of the Year and two-time national champion in the indoor 800-meter run, will attempt to make it three national titles after automatically qualifying in the 800 on Saturday. Windle crossed the finish line in 1:48.41, which was second in the race, an automatic nationals-qualifying time and the best Division II time in the event so far in 2014-15.

Also on Saturday, junior Nick Hall finished third in the men's 3,000-meter run and had a provisional-effort time of 8:21.32, and the men's 4x400-meter relay team was fifth and also had a provisional time of 3:17.07. That relay team includes senior Elijha Owens, freshman Halen Witcher, Windle and senior Waquiem Comar.

The nationally-ranked Ashland indoor track and field teams (women second, men third) will be at the Akron Blue/Gold meet on Feb. 6-7.
