Bjelac Earns Two Provisional Efforts For No. 2 AU Women

Ashland University's men's and women's indoor track teams – both ranked second in Division II – competed on Friday (Feb. 6) at the Akron Invitational, and came away with two more provisional national-qualifying showings.

Senior Jennifer Bjelac turned in provisional efforts in both the women's long jump (18-feet-8½, first place) and the women's pentathlon (3,598 points, fourth place).

First-place showings on Friday were earned by senior Jennifer Foster in the women's high jump (5-feet-8¾) and freshman Lucas Ball in the men's shot put (44-feet-5¼).

Ashland again will compete at Akron on Saturday (Feb. 7). Running begins at 9 a.m., and field events go at 11 a.m.

In addition to the action at Akron, Ashland's men's and women's distance medley relay teams competed at the Crimson and Gold Invitational at Oberlin on Friday.

The men's team of junior Nick Hall and seniors Elijha Owens, Joshua Davis and Drew Windle, which already provisionally qualified for nationals last weekend at Penn State, won the event in 10:06.51. The women's team of junior Jillian Bajaksouzian, freshman Irene Skinner and sophomores Jackie Genetin and Delainey Phelps took second place in 12:14.15 – just shy of a provisional national-qualifying time.
