Ashland University senior Elijha Owens earned an automatic berth at the Division II indoor track and field nationals in the 60-meter hurdles Saturday (Feb. 7) at the Akron Invitational.
Owens crossed the finish line first in 7.88 seconds.
Three more Eagles earned or improved on provisional nationals-qualifying spots at Akron. Sophomore Jason Zahn was third in the shot put at 55-feet-9¾, senior Waquiem Comar was fourth in the 60-meter hurdles (8.07 seconds) and junior Eric Thompkins was fourth in the 60-meter dash (6.89 seconds).
Ashland also received a pair of first-place efforts in the 3,000-meter run. On the men's side, junior David Knack crossed the tape first in 8:28.49, and on the women's side, sophomore Jillian Bajaksouzian won in 10:24.52.
The Eagle men's and women's indoor track and field teams, both ranked second in the country, will next compete on Saturday, Feb. 21, at the Kent State Tune-Up.
