Ashland University's indoor track and field program took one more step toward being the undisputed best in Division II on Monday (Feb. 16) – and made some history in the process.
The Eagle women's indoor track is ranked No. 1 in the country in this week's USTFCCCA NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field National Team Computer Rankings, a team first. Ashland's women have 152.11 points, ahead of second-ranked Central Missouri (144.25).
"That's a great honor and achievement for our women's program," said Ashland head coach Jud Logan. "It certainly doesn't change anything in our focus. We'll take it, but it's not going to change our focus or what we're doing. We just want to go to NCAAs and be in position to compete for a podium spot."
Ashland's men continue to be ranked second in Division II. They have 149.40 computer points, just behind Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference rival Grand Valley State (156.29).
As of the weekend, the Eagle men and women have combined for nine automatic and 31 provisional nationals-qualifying efforts.
"We're just thrilled, but we're not looking ahead to NCAAs," Logan said. "We've got our heads down. We've got too many intermediate goals between now and NCAAs."
The Eagles will compete on Friday (Feb. 20) at 4 p.m. Ohio State's Buckeye Tune-Up and Saturday (Feb. 21) at 9 a.m. at the Kent State Tune-Up.
