Eagle Men, Women Compete At Kent State Tune-Up

Ashland University's women's and men's indoor track and field teams, ranked first and second in Division II, respectively, competed on Saturday (Feb. 21) at the Kent State Tune-Up.

Senior Jennifer Bjelac, who already has a provisional nationals-qualifying effort on the women's long jump, won that event on Saturday with a top showing of 18-feet-7¼. Sophomores Jackie Genetin (3:08.95) and Molly Scott (3:18.51) finished 1-2 in the women's 1,000-meter run.

In the women's weight throw, senior Jessica Bridenthal (64-feet-11½) and sophomore Megan Tomei (58-feet-3¾) finished second and third, respectively. The women's high jump saw senior Jennifer Foster finish third (5-feet-7), sophomore Rebecca Koval place fourth (5-feet-5) and Bjelac provisionally qualify for nationals at 5-feet-5.

Senior James Clay Harris (fifth, 64-feet-1¼) and freshman Clayton Jury (sixth, 61-feet-10¼) were 5-6 in the men's weight throw, and both improved on their previous provisional-qualifying efforts.

In the women's 200-meter dash, freshman Irene Skinner provisionally qualified for nationals by finishing in 25.02 (fifth place).

Also in the men's weight throw, AU Strength and Conditioning Coach A.G. Kruger won the event with a top mark of 75-feet-0¾.

Ashland's indoor track and field teams will compete at the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championships on Feb. 28 and March 1.
