Ashland University junior Jamie Sindelar was named the Midwest Region Women's Field Athlete of the Year on Monday (March 9) by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).
Sindelar has posted the country's top effort in the women's shot put so far in 2014-15 (55-feet-4 ¼/16.87 meters). That mark not only earned her the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference title, but is the second-farthest indoor shot put in Division II history.
She has thrown past the nationals automatic-qualifying mark in five meets this season.
Sindelar will be one of 23 Eagles to compete in the 2015 NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field Championships, Friday (March 13) and Saturday (March 14) in Birmingham, Ala., at the Birmingham CrossPlex.
