Eagles Begin To Make Their Outdoor Moves At Akron Quad

Prior to the start of Thursday's (April 2) Northeast Ohio Quad at The University of Akron, Ashland University's outdoor track and field teams had seven athletes provisionally qualify in eight events for the 2015 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Nationals, May 21-23 in Allendale, Mich.

On Thursday, that number swelled thanks to eight more provisional showings at the quad, which also featured Akron, Kent State and Youngstown State.

Senior Elijha Owens won two events on Thursday, improving his previous provisional mark in the men's 110-meter hurdles by 14 hundredths of a second (14.07) and earning a second provisional effort in the men's 400-meter hurdles (53.34). Senior Waquiem Comar finished second in the 400 hurdles (54.37) to earn a provisional time.

Senior Eric Thompkins' second-place showing of 10.50 in the men's 100-meter dash and sophomore Jason Zahn's second-place finish of 49.42 meters in the men's discus both were provisional marks.

On the women's side, junior Jamie Sindelar won the discus throw with a provisional distance of 47.97 meters, and Sindelar (second, 15.54 meters), senior Jessica Bridenthal (fourth, 13.62) and sophomore Megan Tomei (fifth, 13.61) all earned provisional entry in the shot put.

Also on Thursday, junior David Knack was second in the men's 1,500-meter run (3:59.16), senior Anna Mion finished second in the women's 3,000-meter run (10:37.57), freshman Clayton Jury took third in the men's discus throw (48.57 meters), junior Nick Hall was third in the men's 800-meter run (1:56.82) and the men's 4x400 relay team of senior Joshua Davis, senior Jacob Cook, sophomore Austin Hill and senior Drew Windle was third in 3:19.08.

The Eagles return to Akron on Friday (April 3) for field events at 2 p.m. Ashland's outdoor track and field teams also compete on Friday at the John Homon Open at Mount Union.
