Track And Field Trio Earn Weekly GLIAC Awards

Three Ashland University outdoor track and field standouts who either improved upon or earned new automatic entry into 2015 nationals during the Ashland Alumni Open have earned Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference weekly honors.

Junior Elijha Owens is this week's GLIAC Male Track Athlete of the Week. Owens won the 110-meter high hurdles on Saturday (April 25) at 13.85 seconds, automatically qualifying him for the 2015 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Nationals (May 21-23 in Allendale, Mich.).

He also was part of the 4x100-meter relay team which won in 40.52 seconds, and provisionally qualified for the national meet.

Sophomore Jordan Crayon and senior Jennifer Foster sweep this week's GLIAC Field Athlete of the Week awards. On Friday (April 24), Crayon improved upon his previous automatic nationals distance in the hammer throw, posting a top distance of 66.49 meters/218-feet-2 and winning the event at the Open.

Foster's top high jump of 1.81 meters/5-feet-11¼ on Saturday, a first-place jump at the Open, moved her into automatic qualification for nationals. That jump is the best mark in the GLIAC so far during the outdoor season.

The Eagle men's and women's outdoor track and field teams will compete at the 2015 GLIAC Championships, Wednesday (April 29) through Friday (May 1) at Hillsdale.
