Habegger, Bridenthal Earn Academic All-District Laurels

One day after both Kim Habegger and Jessica Bridenthal earned All-American honors in the women's hammer throw at the 2015 NCAA Division II Championships at Grand Valley State University, they picked up some more hardware away from the field.

Habegger and Bridenthal earned a spot on the 2014-15 NCAA Division II Capital One Academic All-District Women's Track & Field/Cross Country Team in District 4, released on Friday (May 22).

During the 2014-15 indoor/outdoor track and field season, Habegger, in addition to her fourth-place finish in the hammer (57.39 meters/188-feet-3) on Thursday (May 21), placed second in the event at the 2015 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference outdoor meet (58.55 meters/192-feet-1) and second in the weight throw at the 2015 GLIAC indoor meet (19.59 meters/64-feet-3¼).

Habegger has a 3.86 cumulative grade-point average.

In 2014-15, Bridenthal, in addition to finishing fifth nationally in the hammer (55.86 meters/183-feet-3) on Thursday, was named the 2015 GLIAC women's field Athlete of the Year. At the 2015 GLIAC outdoor meet, she was third in the shot put (14.60 meters/47-feet-11) and the hammer (55.98 meters/183-feet-8).

Indoors, Bridenthal was fifth nationally in the weight throw (18.95 meters/62-feet-2¼) and seventh nationally in the shot put (14.50 meters/47-feet-7), and, at the GLIAC meet, placed third in the weight throw (19.38 meters/63-feet-7) and in the shot put (14.63 meters/48-feet-0).

Bridenthal sports a 3.63 cumulative GPA.

First-team Academic All-District honorees advance to the Capital One Academic All-America Team ballot. First-, second- and third-team All-America honorees will be announced in late June.
