The 2015-16 collegiate track and field season is about to begin, but Ashland University head coach Jud Logan has another reason to anticipate getting deep into December.
On Monday, Dec. 28, Logan will be inducted into the National Throws Coaches Association's Thrower's Hall of Fame. He is a member of the 2015 Hall class, along with former Team USA teammates Lance Deal and Ramona Pagel.
"It's a pretty stellar Hall of Fame," Logan said. "It's one that I had sometime hoped to be in, but never thought it would be this soon. It's really cool, I'm going in with two of my Olympic teammates. Between the three of us, we were on 12 Olympic teams, and I think we crossed over on three of them.
"I consider it a big deal, because of the people who went in front of me. I'm really looking forward to joining that elite class of people."
A world-class star in the hammer throw, Logan has been on four United States Olympic Teams - 1984, 1988, 1992 and 2000. Logan was a captain on the 1992 team. He has competed in the Pan-American Games, the Goodwill Games and World Championships. He held the American record of 268-feet-8 in the hammer throw.
Throughout his career, which included five Olympic Trials and nine national trials, Logan never has finished outside of the top three finishers.
Logan is in his 22nd season at Ashland as a track coach, and his 11th as Eagles head coach.
The Hall of Fame induction is part of the 2015 NTCA Throws Summit, Dec. 27-28 at the Spire Institute in Geneva, Ohio. In addition to Logan, the Summit will have even more AU flavor, as former Eagles Kurt Roberts and Kibwe Johnson are scheduled to attend.
