Late Friday (Jan. 15) at Findlay, the Ashland University men's and women's indoor track and field teams competed at the Northwest Ohio Invitational, and the women came away with three first-place finishes.
Senior Lauren Ellsworth won the women's 60-meter dash in 7.62 seconds, improving on her previous provisional nationals-qualifying time. That mark also is the second-best in AU women's indoor track history, only trailing the 7.50 seconds turned in by Shami Vanhook on March 13, 2005 in Boston, Mass.
Ellsworth also was a member of the winning women's 4x400 relay team (3:57.53), along with sophomore Haley Gregory, junior Tiarra Kick and sophomore Irene Skinner.
Senior Jamie Sindelar won the title in the women's shot put, turning in a top distance of 15.70 meters/51-feet-6¼. Sindelar already has automatically qualified in the event for the 2016 NCAA Division II indoor national championships, March 11-12 in Pittsburg, Kan.
Five Eagles turned in second-place finishes on Friday – senior Meghan Cunningham in the women's pole vault (3.45 meters/11-feet-3¾), freshman Myles Pringle in the men's high jump (2.01 meters/6-feet-7), Gregory in the women's 60 hurdles (8.88 seconds), junior Austin Borton in the women's 500 dash (1.24.23) and senior David Knack in the men's 3,000 run (8:36.62).
Juniors Marlecia Holston (10.52 meters/34-feet-6¼ in the women's triple jump) and Alexis Smith (1:25.23 in the women's 500 dash) each placed third in their respective events.
In a change from the original schedule, the Eagle men and women will go to the Tiffin Dragon Open on Saturday, Jan. 23 at noon.
