Eagle Men, Women Compete At Tiffin Dragon Open

Ashland University's men's and women's indoor track and field teams competed on Saturday (Jan. 23) at the Tiffin Dragon Open, coming away with one new nationals provisional mark, three improved provisionals and an improved automatic showing. 

On the women's side, senior Jamie Sindelar won the shot put, turning in a starring top effort of 16.57 meters/54-feet-4½ and improving upon her previous automatic nationals-qualifying mark. Sindelar also improved on her previous provisional mark in the weight throw (17.25 meters/56-feet-7¼).

Also improving on past provisional distances were redshirt freshman Kala Strong in the shot put (second, 14.25 meters/46-feet-9) and junior Megan Tomei in the weight throw (fourth, 17.76 meters/58-feet-3¼). 

The new provisional member is redshirt freshman Mackenzie Leigh, who placed 10th in the weight throw in 16.50 meters/54-feet-1¾).

Senior Lauren Ellsworth won both the 60-meter dash (7.64 seconds) and 200 dash (25.29), and was part of the winning 4x400 relay team (4:02.03), along with sophomore Haley Gregory, sophomore Irene Skinner and junior Nuri Lee

Junior Marlecia Holston won the triple jump (11.33 meters/37-feet-2¼) and was second in the long jump (5.49 meters/18-feet-0¼). Skinner took the 400 dash (59.07), Gregory won the 60 hurdles (8.91), senior Meghan Cunningham took the pole vault (3.36 meters/11-feet-0¼) and senior Megan Roessler was the winner in the 3,000 run (11:04.92).

Seniors Kylee Bernthisel (mile, 5:25.69) and Emma Daugherty (3,000 run, 11:17.28) finished second in their respective events. 

On the men's side, senior Eric Thompkins took the 60 dash (6.99) and was second in the 200 dash (22.68). Junior Tommy Menyes crossed the finish line first in the 3,000 run (9:05.21).

Junior Zach Humrichouser was second in the mile (4:28.26), freshman Myles Pringle was the runner-up in the high jump (1.98 meters/6-feet-6), junior Jordan Crayon took second in the weight throw (20.66 meters/67-feet-9½) and freshman Devin Snowden was second in the long jump (6.57 meters/21-feet-6¾). 

The distance medley relay team of freshman Eric Sampsel, junior Columbus Millet, freshman Tyler Sievert and junior Eric Hansen was second in 10:40.73.

The Eagles will split and go to the Findlay Classic and the Penn Nationals on Friday (Jan. 29) and Saturday (Jan. 30).
