Men’s, Women’s Track Piles Up Wins At Wooster Invite

There were wins aplenty for Ashland University men's and women's outdoor track and field teams on Saturday (April 2) at the Wooster Invitational.

Leading the victory parade was senior Brandon Freeman, who won both the men's 100-meter dash (10.79 seconds) and 200 dash (21.96). Freeman also was a member of the winning men's 4x100 relay team (41.89) that included freshmen Brandon Wilson and Myles Pringle and senior Eric Thompkins.

Pringle earned an individual victory in the men's 400 dash (49.41), as did junior Damani Barnes in the men's long jump (6.61 meters/21-feet-8¼).

Freshman Samantha Duale earned a win in the women's 100 dash (12.49), and junior Shelby Jordan won the women's 200 dash (25.94). Both Duale and Jordan were part of the winning women's 4x100 relay team (48.13), along with senior Lauren Ellsworth and sophomore Irene Skinner.

Placing second in their respective events were Jordan in the women's 100 dash (12.58) and senior Jillian Bajaksouzian in the women's 800 run (2:25.03).

Third-place showings were turned in by junior Jackie Genetin in the women's 1,500 run (4:54.71), sophomore Marie Hammer in the women's 400 hurdles (1:06.68), senior Meghan Cunningham in the women's pole vault (3.47 meters/11-feet-4½), Wilson in the men's 100 dash (10.85) and sophomore Trent Balduff in the men's pole vault (4.43 meters/14-feet-6¼).

Ashland's men and women will go to the All-Ohio Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Athens on Friday (April 8) and Saturday (April 9).
