Eagle Men, Women Compete At OSU, BW Meets

Ashland University's men's and women's outdoor track and field teams, ranked No. 8 and 25 in Division II, respectively, competed on Friday (April 22) and Saturday (April 23) at both the Jesse Owens Track & Field Classic in Columbus, Ohio, and the Sparky Adams Invitational in Berea, Ohio.

At Ohio State, the Eagles turned in one improved automatic performance and three improved provisional efforts for the 2016 Division II outdoor nationals, May 26-28 in Bradenton, Fla.

The Columbus highlight came in the women's shot put championship division, where senior Jamie Sindelar improved on her previous nationals auto mark by placing second at 16.47 meters, and junior Megan Tomei moved up the provisional list at 14.45 meters.

Ashland also received provisional improvements from junior Bryn Campbell in the men's hammer throw (65.48 meters) and senior Eric Thompkins in the men's 100-meter dash (10.59 seconds).

Tomei won the women's hammer at 55.96 meters, while the men's 4x100 relay team of freshmen Devin Snowden and Myles Pringle and seniors Thompkins and Brandon Freeman was second in 41.42 seconds.

On Friday, junior Jason Zahn took third in the men's discus throw with a top heave of 54.70 meters.

At Baldwin-Wallace on Friday, redshirt freshman Stephen Pop turned in a new provisional distance in the men's hammer at 53.99 meters.

On Saturday at B-W, AU's women turned in five winning efforts – senior Jillian Bajaksouzian in the 1,500 run (4:55.78), junior Victoria Beverly in the 100 hurdles (15.09 seconds), sophomore Marie Hammer in the 400 hurdles (1:05.35), junior Nuri Lee in the triple jump (11.17 meters) and the 4x400 relay team of freshman Tiffany Pryce, Lee, Hammer and junior Tiarra Kick (4:05.63).

Also winning on Saturday in Berea was the men's 4x400 relay squad of freshman Brandon Wilson, sophomore Ryan VanCauwenbergh and juniors Columbus Millet and William Robinson (3:29.95).

Placing second for Ashland were Wilson in the men's 100 dash (10.80), Robinson in the men's 400 hurdles (55.16), senior Megan Roessler in the women's 5,000 run (18:35.06) and senior William Cutler in the men's 5,000 run (15:17.19).

Taking third for AU were Pryce in the women's 100 hurdles (15.39), senior Mikaela Bush in the women's 800 run (2:23.26), junior Linda Morales in the women's 5,000 run (18:36.60), junior Zach Humrichouser in the men's 5,000 run (15:29.20), redshirt freshman Brandon Sicurella in the men's shot put (15.67 meters), Robinson in the men's 110 hurdles (15.63) and the men's 4x400 relay team of freshmen Derek Reynolds, Eric Sampsel and Daniel Fridley and junior Thomas Menyes (3:41.18).

The Eagle men and women will compete at home on Friday (April 29) and Saturday (April 30), as the seventh Ashland Alumni Open will take place at the Ferguson Field complex.
