Eagle Women Fourth, Men Sixth After GLIACs Day 2

Day 2 of the three-day 2016 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championships is in the books, and members of Ashland University's men's and women's outdoor track and field teams made their presence felt on Thursday (May 5).

The Eagle women are fourth after seven scored events. Of their 22 team points, seven came from sophomore Hannah Bartlome, who placed fourth in the heptathlon (4,438 points) and seventh in the javelin (34.23 meters/112-feet-4).

Ashland's women turned in three fifth-place finishes – sophomore Marie Hammer in the heptathlon (4,401 points), senior Kylee Bernthisel in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (10:59.70) and junior Marlecia Holston in the long jump (5.56 meters/18-feet-3).

Also in the women's long jump, sophomore Isabella Stoll was eighth (5.33 meters/17-feet-6). In the women's hammer throw, junior Megan Tomei took seventh with a top heave of 54.29 meters/178-feet-1.

The Eagle men are sixth following seven scored events. Nineteen of their 20½ points on Thursday came from a trio of men's hammer throwers – juniors Jordan Crayon (second, 64.50 meters/211-feet-7) and Bryn Campbell (third, 63.68 meters/208-feet-11), and sophomore Clayton Jury (fourth, 61.91 meters/203-feet-1).

Freshman Myles Pringle tied for seventh in the men's high jump (1.95 meters/6-feet-4¾), while qualifying for Friday's (May 6) finals in both the men's 400 dash (first, 47.50) and men's 200 dash (fifth, 21.66).

Also on the men's side, qualifying for Friday finals were sophomore William Robinson and freshman Devin Snowden in both the 110 hurdles (Robinson fifth at 15.29, Snowden seventh at 15.35) and 400 hurdles (Robinson sixth at 54.31, Snowden seventh at 54.84), senior Eric Thompkins in the 200 dash (eighth, 21.80) and both Thompkins (sixth, 10.71) and freshman Brandon Wilson (seventh, 10.72) in the 100 dash.

Sophomore Irene Skinner won the women's 400 dash prelims (55.15), and senior Lauren Ellsworth (24.42) and Skinner (24.43) were 2-3 in the women's 200 dash prelims – Skinner earning a new nationals provisional time.

Ellsworth was third in the women's 100 dash prelims (11.93), and the women's 4x100 relay team of freshman Samantha Duale, Ellsworth, junior Shelby Jordan and Skinner was fifth (46.63) in prelims.

The third and final day of the GLIAC Championships will be Friday, beginning at 11 a.m.
