Crayon, Campbell Earn All-American Status In Hammer

Ashland University's men's and women's outdoor track and field nationals qualifiers started their quest for NCAA Division II Championships gold on Thursday (May 26) in Bradenton, Fla. 

Ashland's three men's hammer throwers began the day, and all three finished in the top nine. Junior Jordan Crayon placed third with a top throw of 65.05 meters/213-feet-5, junior Bryn Campbell was fourth at 63.94 meters/209-feet-9 and sophomore Clayton Jury took ninth at 61.10 meters/200-feet-5.

Crayon earned his second consecutive outdoor hammer All-American honor (sixth at nationals in 2015), and Campbell earned his second in three seasons (fifth at nationals in 2014).

Freshman Myles Pringle advanced to the finals of the men's 400-meter dash on Saturday (May 28) at 6:15 p.m. after placing third in Thursday's preliminaries in a school-record and career-best 46.46 seconds.

Senior Lauren Ellsworth will compete in the women's 100 dash finals on Saturday at 6:45 p.m. after placing fifth during Thursday's prelims in 11.73 seconds.

In the men's 10,000 run, senior David Knack was 15th in 32:53.61. In the women's hammer throw, junior Megan Tomei placed 19th (50.14 meters/164-feet-6).

The men's 4x100 relay team of senior Eric Thompkins, junior Brandon Freeman and freshmen Pringle and Brandon Wilson did not finish.

In the women's 400 dash prelims, sophomore Irene Skinner placed ninth in 54.74 seconds.

Ashland's men are third with 11 team points after three scored events. Fellow Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference programs Grand Valley State (15) and Tiffin (14) are 1-2.

Day 2 of the D-II Championships will be Friday (May 27).
