AU Men, Women Add To Early National Marks At Kent

In just the first day of just the second meet of the 2016-17 indoor season on Friday (Dec. 9) at the Kent State Golden Flash Gala, Ashland University's No. 6-ranked men's and women's track teams earned one new automatic, four new provisional and three improved provisional marks for NCAA Division II nationals.

In the men's weight throw, junior Daniel Roberts earned Ashland's automatic nationals mark thanks to an event-winning heave of 20.99 meters/68-feet-10.5. Seniors Jordan Crayon (third, 20.64 meters/67-feet-8.75) and Bryn Campbell (fourth, 20.09 meters/65-feet-11) each turned in new provisional marks, while freshman Nick Zak (seventh, 18.69 meters/61-feet-4) improved on his previous provisional.

The women's weight throw saw sophomore Natalie Helenthal win with an improved provisional mark of 19.07 meters/62-feet-6.75. Senior Megan Tomei turned in a new provisional at 18.62 meters/61-feet-1.25 in finishing second, while sophomore Mackenzie Leigh was fourth with an improved provisional distance of 18.05 meters/59-feet-2.75.

Junior Marie Hammer joined the provisional efforts parade with a third-place finish in the women's indoor pentathlon with 3,291 points.

In the women's pole vault, freshman Amber Otermat finished in the tie for third at 3.25 meters/10-feet-8.
