Sophomore Myles Pringle certainly hasn't wasted any time in taking his game up a notch – and placing his name prominently in the Ashland University track and field record book.
Pringle set two Eagle indoor school records, automatically qualifying for 2017 NCAA Division II indoor nationals in the process, and turned in an all-time D-II mark on Day 2 of the Kent State Golden Flash Gala on Saturday (Dec. 10).
In the men's 400-meter dash, Pringle won with a time of 46.11 seconds, which is the third-best time in the history of Division II, trailing just Saint Augustine's Josh Scott (2010) and NYIT's Howard Burnett (1990), who are tied for the national record of 46.05. The time broke the previous AU indoor mark of 47.20, set by Keith Cleveland in 2013.
Earlier in the day in the men's high jump, Pringle won with a new school record distance of 2.17 meters/7-feet-1.5, breaking the previous mark of 2.12 meters/6-feet-11.5 by Adrian O'Dell in 2002.
Pringle also was a member of the Ashland men's 4x400 relay team which finished second and turned in a nationals provisional time of 3:14.32. That team also included freshman Paul Murray, sophomore Devin Snowden and freshman Mahlique Booth.
Ashland also had an automatic nationals qualification in the women's shot put, where senior Megan Tomei finished second at 15.77 meters/51-feet-9.
Three Eagle men's shot putters turned in new provisional distances – senior Elijah Talk (first, 17.80 meters/58-feet-4.75), senior Jason Zahn (second, 17.66 meters/57-feet-11.25) and junior Daniel Roberts (sixth, 16.41 meters/53-feet-10.25).
Sophomore Brandon Wilson provisionally qualified for nationals in the men's 60 dash (second, 6.82 seconds), while freshman Ellie Jindra did the same in the women's high jump (second, 1.65 meters/5-feet-5).
First-place showings were earned by freshman Cassidy Newburg in the women's 400 dash (58.65 seconds) and sophomore Tyler Sievert in the men's 800 run (1:56.27). Snowden took second in the men's long jump with a top mark of 6.94 meters/22-feet-9.25.
Eagles finishing in third place were senior Rebecca Koval in the women's high jump (1.60 meters/5-feet-3), Booth in the men's long jump (6.87 meters/22-feet-6.5), freshman Arthur Greenlee Jr. in the men's 60 hurdles (8.42 seconds), junior Ryan VanCauwenbergh in the men's 800 run (1:56.84), Wilson in the men's 200 dash (22.07) and the women's 4x400 relay team of senior Nuri Lee, Newburg, junior Haley Gregory and senior Tiarra Kick (3:54.01).
UP NEXT: The second semester portion of the 2016-17 season will begin on Jan. 6 at the Ohio State Buckeye Classic.
