Ashland University's men's indoor track and field team made quite the jump in the first set of regular-season Division II computer rankings released by the U.S. Track & Field And Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) on Tuesday (Jan. 24) afternoon.
For the first time since Feb. 24, 2015, and for the second time this decade, the Eagle men are the top-ranked indoor team in the country. AU's men have moved up from No. 6 in the preseason rankings, and are in the top five in the rankings for the 45th time since the start of the 2009-10 indoor campaign.
Ashland's women's indoor team is 11th in the new rankings after placing sixth in the preseason. They have been ranked no worse than 15th in 56 rankings since the start of 2009-10.
The Eagle men and women have combined for four automatic and 25 provisional marks for D-II nationals, March 10-11 in Birmingham, Ala.
Ashland's men and women will split off and head to both the Findlay Elite meet and the Penn State Penn Nationals on Friday (Jan. 27) and Saturday (Jan. 28).
