Ashland University junior Daniel Roberts hasn't wasted time making his mark on the Eagles, the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference and the NCAA Division II record book.

Roberts earned his third GLIAC Men's Field Athlete of the Week award on Tuesday (Jan. 31) morning, and did so following a big weight throw at the Findlay Indoor Track & Field Classic & Elite Throws on Saturday (Jan. 28).

Roberts won the men's weight throw on Saturday, doing so with a top mark of 22.20 meters/72-feet-10. That throw is the 12th-best in the history of NCAA Division II indoors, and it puts him as the fifth-best D-II indoor men's weight thrower all-time, trailing Ashland's Kibwe Johnson (Nos. 1-7), Ashland's Ryan Loughney (Nos. 8 and 10), Grand Valley State's Darien Thornton (No. 9) and Findlay's Justin Welch (No. 11).

Through Jan. 29, Roberts has the top men's weight throw mark in Division II, and is No. 17 in the country in the men's shot put.

The top-ranked Ashland men and No. 11 Eagle women will look to improve upon five automatic and 30 provisional marks for 2017 indoor nationals at the two-day Akron Invitational on Friday (Feb. 3) and Saturday (Feb. 4).
