Hall’s School-Record Mile Highlights Kent Tune-Up

New school records have become a weekly thing for the No. 1-ranked Ashland University men's indoor track and field team of late.

Another new Eagle standard was set on Saturday (Feb. 18) at the Kent Tune-Up, as senior Nick Hall turned in a new nationals provisional time of 4:04.37 in the men's mile run.

Hall, a two-time All-American in cross country, has earned provisional entry into 2017 indoor track nationals in the mile, 3,000-meter run, 5,000 run and as part of the distance medley relay team.

Also in the mile run, junior Hunter Heaton was second in 4:12.46, and freshman Steven Kapes took third in 4:14.24.

Another new provisional mark was earned by freshman Gariana Bercheni in the women's 60 hurdles, as she finished third in 8.84 seconds.

An improved provisional mark was turned in by junior Elijah Talk in the men's shot put, as he placed second with a top effort of 18.13 meters/59-feet-5¾.

Senior Zach Humrichouser won the men's 3,000 run in 8:45.63, while junior Ryan VanCauwenbergh (1:53.82) and sophomore Tyler Sievert (1:54.28) were 1-2 in the men's 800 run.

Earning runner-up finishes were sophomore Natalie Helenthal in the women's weight throw (18.46 meters/63-feet-0), junior Hannah Bartlome in the women's high jump (1.65 meters/5-feet-5) and sophomore Jacob Sprague in the men's pole vault unseeded (4.40 meters/14-feet-5¼).

Sophomore Stephen Pop took third in the men's weight throw (18.46 meters/60-feet-6¾).
