Men’s Hammer Throwers Improve Provisionals At Akron

On Friday (April 14) on Day 1 of the Northeast Ohio Quad at the University of Akron, Ashland University's men's hammer throwers took the top five spots, with three improving on previous provisional marks for 2017 NCAA Division II nationals, May 25-27 in Bradenton, Fla.

Senior Jordan Crayon (66.29 meters) and junior Daniel Roberts (66.07 meters) finished 1-2, then senior Bryn Campbell (third, 65.38 meters), sophomore Stephen Pop (fourth, 57.86 meters) and redshirt freshman Nick Zak (fifth, 57.51 meters) all upped their earlier provisional distances.

On the women's side, sophomores Mackenzie Leigh (56.57 meters) and Natalie Helenthal (52.52 meters) finished 2-3 in the hammer.

On Friday night at the Bison Outdoor Classic at Bucknell, redshirt freshman Steven Kapes shattered the program outdoor freshman record while competing in the men's 10,000-meter run, invite class, crossing the finish line in 30:14.92. The provisional mark was 1:23 faster than the previous school mark.

Also at Bucknell, senior Nick Hall provisionally qualified for nationals after finishing seventh in the men's 1,500 run, invite class, in 3:47.51.
