Eagle Men, Women Make National Moves At Akron

On Saturday (April 15) on Day 2 of the Northeast Ohio Quad at the University of Akron, Ashland University's men's and women's outdoor track and field teams compiled four new and two improved provisional marks for 2017 NCAA Division II nationals, May 25-27 in Bradenton, Fla.

Leading that charge was sophomore Samantha Duale, who finished second in the women's 100-meter dash (11.94 seconds) and third in the women's 200 dash (24.50 seconds) for a pair of new provisional times.

In the men's high jump, sophomore Myles Pringle provisionally qualified with a second-place showing of 2.05 meters/6-feet-8½. In the men's 110 hurdles, freshman Arthur Greenlee IV won with a new provisional time of 14.27 seconds, setting a new men's freshman outdoor record in the process.

The improved provisional marks were earned by junior Zachary Smelcer in the men's shot put (third, 16.46 meters/54-feet-0) and redshirt freshman Alex Hill in the men's discus throw (fifth, 52.30 meters/171-feet-7).

Winning their respective events were junior Elijah Talk in the men's shot put (17.94 meters/58-feet-10¼) and the men's 4x100 relay team of sophomore Brandon Wilson, sophomore Devin Snowden, senior Brandon Freeman and Pringle (40.71 seconds).

Finishing second were Wilson in the men's 100 dash (10.65 seconds), junior Hunter Heaton in the men's 800 run (1:52.57) and junior Hannah Bartlome in the women's javelin throw (33.95 meters/111-feet-4½).

Freshman Dylan Kipp took third in the men's javelin throw (56.28 meters/184-feet-7½).

Also on Saturday at the Walsh Invitational, sophomore Stephen Pop was third in the men's hammer throw at 54.77 meters/179-feet-8.

UP NEXT: Friday (April 21) and Saturday (April 22) at the Jesse Owens Track & Field Classic at The Ohio State University, and Saturday at the Sparky Adams Invitational at Baldwin-Wallace.
