Ashland University's men's outdoor track and field team continues to do a yo-yo at the top of the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) rankings, moving down one spot to No. 3 in the latest edition released on Tuesday (April 25).
The Eagle men went from unranked in the preseason to No. 2 on both March 28 and April 4, then No. 3 on April 11 and back to No. 2 on April 18 prior to the latest rankings. Ashland has 155.41 computer points, trailing only No. 1 Chico State (170.00) and No. 2 Adams State (157.09).
Ashland's men have four automatic and 20 provisional efforts for 2017 NCAA Division II nationals, May 25-27 in Bradenton, Fla. They boast the country's top three hammer throwers (junior Daniel Roberts, 68.95 meters/226-feet-2; senior Jordan Crayon, 68.75 meters/225-feet-7 and senior Bryn Campbell, 65.38 meters/214-feet-6), D-II's top mark in the 400-meter dash (sophomore Myles Pringle, 45.99 seconds) and the No. 2 shot putter in the country (junior Elijah Talk, 18.97 meters/62-feet-3).
The Ashland men and women will play host to the Ashland Alumni Open on Friday (April 28) and Saturday (April 29).
