Ashland University's men's and women's outdoor track and field teams only get to play host to one meet per season, and the Eagles were bound and determined to get as much as they could in on Saturday (April 29) on Day 2 of the Ashland Alumni Open despite a lengthy lightning delay.

"We had a quite a few lightning delays early," said Ashland head coach Jud Logan. "We had the pole vault and the high jump inside, which are the only two events that are legal to contest like that."

Sophomore Myles Pringle led the Eagle effort, setting a new school record in the men's high jump with a winning effort of 2.14 meters/7-feet-0. That also is an improved provisional mark for nationals.

"The highlight over there (in the fieldhouse) was Myles Pringle," Logan said. "He's starting to get healthy again, and he showed it today. That will get him in the national meet."

Pringle also was part of the winning men's 4x100 relay team which improved its provisional time at 40.65 seconds, and he also won the men's 200 dash in 22.20 seconds. Sophomores Brandon Wilson and Devin Snowden and senior Brandon Freeman also made up the 4x1 squad.

"It was good to see our relay drop down a little bit," Logan said. "Our exchanges our good. We just need opportunity and we need competition, and we didn't have that today."

In the men's shot put invite section, junior Elijah Talk was second (18.09 meters/59-feet-4) and senior Jason Zahn improved upon his previous provisional distance in finishing seventh (17.06 meters/55-feet-11½).

The men's discus saw freshman Nick Zak win with a new provisional distance of 50.38 meters/165-feet-3¼, while in the men's javelin throw, freshman Dylan Kipp improved his provisional distance with a second-place showing of 59.99 meters/196-feet-9¾.

In the women's pole vault, freshman Amber Otermat finished ninth at 3.81 meters/12-feet-6 to improve on her previous provisional mark.

"We took a safe approach in terms of not really over-extending our kids," Logan said. "We had some nice provos."
