Former Ashland University pole vaulter Katie Nageotte keeps reaching for the stars.

She got a little closer to space on Tuesday (July 11) in Gothenburg, Sweden, as she cleared a personal-best vault of 4.72 meters. That mark puts Nageotte fifth all-time in United States outdoor history and seventh all-time in the U.S., indoors or outdoors, among women's pole vaulters.

Nageotte will compete in a meet in Rottach, Germany, this week, but is taking her future schedule meet-to-meet due to injury.

Given her injury troubles, Nageotte said her PR in Sweden wasn't a surprise, adding, "I feel like I've been ready to jump high, it's just been a matter of it coming together in a meet setting. The Achilles has definitely been an annoyance, but we (me and my coach Brad Walker) have been good about balancing a good work load on it without overdoing it.

"Ironically enough, I had a terrible travel day the night before. I didn't get in until 2 a.m., and my poles didn't show up until 25 minutes before I needed them for the competition. As stressful as that was, I think it channeled all of my anxiety into that, and then once my poles showed up, it was such a relief and excitement (that) it was just fun at that point."

As an Eagle, Nageotte won two NCAA Division II national championships in the pole vault in 2013 – one indoors and one outdoors. She was a three-time All-American at Ashland after transferring from Division I Dayton.
