Ashland University's nationally-ranked men's and women's indoor track and field teams only got two shots to prove themselves before a long Christmas and New Year's break.

The No. 3 Eagle men and No. 25 AU women certainly took advantage of those opportunities, and that included the second day of the Kent State Golden Flash Gala on Saturday (Dec. 9). Saturday's action saw another automatic qualification to NCAA Division II indoor nationals for junior Myles Pringle, along with three new provisional efforts and an improved provo.

Pringle, who automatically qualified for nationals in the high jump at the Tiffin Alumni Open on Dec. 2, won the men's 400-meter dash on Saturday with a time of 47.00 seconds. He will go to D-II indoor nationals on March 9-10 at Pittsburg State in at least two events after winning a pair of 400-meter national titles in 2017 – one indoors and one outdoors.

Ashland's three new provisional efforts came from the 4x400 relay team of freshman Channing Phillips, sophomore Paul Murray, freshman Trevor Bassitt and Pringle (first, 3:15.71); senior Elijah Talk in the men's shot put (second, 17.64 meters/57-feet-10½) and redshirt freshman Gianna DiPippo in the women's shot put (fourth, 14.11 meters/46-feet-3½).

Saturday's improved provisional came from sophomore Arthur Greenlee IV, who finished fifth in the men's 60-meter hurdles in 8.14 seconds.

Junior Tyler Sievert won the men's 800 run in 1:55.81, while redshirt freshman Duvan Bautista-Catalan came in first in the men's mile run (4:42.80). Pringle was runner-up in the men's 60 dash (6.89 seconds), and sophomore Cassidy Newburg was second in the women's 400 dash (58.15 seconds).

Both sophomore Ellie Jindra and senior Hannah Bartlome were third in the women's high jump in 1.65 meters/5-feet-5, while the Ashland "B" men's 4x400 relay squad of senior William Robinson, freshman Brenden Archer, freshman T.J. Elliott and sophomore Brad Studenmund was third in 3:21.10.

UP NEXT: Jan. 7 at the Pole Vault Convention in Akron.
