Ashland University sophomore Alex Hill continues to get closer and closer to an automatic mark for 2018 NCAA Division II indoor nationals in the weight throw.

Hill's latest effort, a winning one at the Youngstown State College Invitational on Friday (Jan. 19), landed him Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Men's Field Athlete of the Week for Week 4 of the 2017-18 season. This is Hill's first GLIAC weekly award.

With a top heave of 21.00 meters/68-feet-10¾, Hill is second in the country in the weight throw, and is just 14/100ths of a meter shy of automatically qualifying for indoor nationals, March 9-10 at Pittsburg State.

Hill's mark is the best among GLIAC weight throwers so far this indoor season.

Ashland's men and women will split up for the Findlay Indoor Track & Field Classic & Elite Throws and Penn Nationals on Friday (Jan. 26) and Saturday (Jan. 27).
