A pair of Ashland University throwers have been honored by the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.

On Tuesday (Feb. 13) morning, both sophomore Alex Hill (Men) and redshirt freshman Gianna DiPippo (Women) were named Week 7 GLIAC Field Athletes of the Week for their efforts on Friday (Feb. 9) at the Grand Valley State Big Meet.

Hill improved upon his previous automatic-qualifying nationals mark, earning first place with a top heave of 22.10 meters/72-feet-6¼. With that, Hill became the sixth-best men's indoor weight thrower in D-II history.

Hill is the No. 1 men's weight thrower in D-II this season, nearly a full meter ahead of the No. 2 thrower.

DiPippo won Friday's event with a top effort of 18.69 meters/61-feet-4 – a provisional improvement and career-best toss by nine-tenths of a meter. That distance moved DiPippo into the No. 10 spot in the country in 2017-18.

This is Hill's third GLIAC weekly award, all this season, and DiPippo's first.

Ashland's men (No. 4 in the country) and women are scheduled to finish the regular season on Friday (Feb. 16) at the Ohio State Open and on Saturday (Feb. 17) at the Kent State Tune-Up.
