Pringle Sets Tone For Eagles On GLIACs Day 2

As days ago, Myles Pringle had a pretty good one on Sunday (Feb. 25) on Day 2 of the 2018 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference indoor track Championships.

In the space of a little more than two hours in Allendale, Mich., the Eagle junior set a conference record in the men's 400-meter dash, was part of a 4x400 relay which autoed for indoor nationals and improved upon a previous provisional time in the 200 dash.

Pringle, after breaking the GLIAC meet record in the men's 400 in prelims on Saturday, did so again on Sunday in the finals, winning in 46.75 seconds. He then teamed with freshmen Trevor Bassitt, Brendan Archer and Channing Phillips to turn in a winning nationals automatic time of 3:11.85 in the men's 4x4.

Finally, Pringle's winning time of 21.32 seconds in the men's 200 improved upon his previous provisionals mark.

After the meet, Pringle earned three conference awards – Men's Track Athlete of the Year, Men's Track Athlete of the Meet and Men's High Point Athlete of the Meet.

In the final men's standings, the Eagles finished third with 117 points. Host Grand Valley State won with 186 points, followed by Tiffin with 170.

The men's shot put saw senior Elijah Talk place second (17.60 meters/57-feet-9), sophomore Jake Glass finish third (17.40 meters/57-feet-1) and sophomore Alex Hill take sixth (16.42 meters/53-feet-10½, improved provisional).

Bassitt also turned in a new provisional time in the men's 200 of 21.76 seconds, placing fourth.

Ashland's men also had three placers in the 60 hurdles – Bassitt in third (8.12 seconds), sophomore Arthur Greenlee IV in fifth (8.28 seconds) and freshman Travis Moore in seventh (8.44 seconds).

Pringle was fourth in the men's high jump (2.06 meters/6-feet-9), freshman Garrick Manning was fourth in the men's heptathlon (4,402 points), Phillips was fifth in the men's 400 (48.90 seconds), and sophomores Jared Ryder (13.34 meters/43-feet-9¼) and Kyle D'Ambrosio (13.15 meters/43-feet-1¾) were 5-6 in the men's triple jump.

Manning was sixth in the men's pole vault (4.32 meters/14-feet-2), and senior Ryan VanCauwenbergh took seventh in the men's 800 (1:55.05).

Following the meet, Hill was named GLIAC Men's Field Athlete of the Year, and Brent Fairbanks garnered Men's Freshman Field Athlete of the Meet honors.

On the women's side, Ashland finished second with 117, trailing only the host Lakers with 253.5.

Freshman Gianna DiPippo, the GLIAC Women's Field Athlete of the Meet, won the women's shot put with an improved provisional heave of 14.42 meters/47-feet-3¾. Senior Hannah Bartlome turned in a new provisional distance in winning the women's high jump in 1.72 meters/5-feet-7¾.

Another new provisional was accomplished by the women's 4x4 relay quartet of freshmen Maddi Yingst, Rachel Miller and Angel Frye, and sophomore Cassidy Newburg, who placed third in 3:51.00.

Newburg was the runner-up in the women's 200 in 25.06 seconds, Yingst was fourth in the women's 400 in 57.56 seconds, and sophomores Ellie Jindra and Paula Wollenslegel tied for fourth in the women's high jump at 1.63 meters/5-feet-4¼.

Sophomore Gariana Bercheni was fifth (9.08 seconds) and senior Haley Gregory seventh (9.15 seconds) in the women's 60 hurdles. Newburg was sixth in the women's 60 (7.82 seconds), junior Tiffany Pryce was sixth in the women's 800 (2:15.99), Bercheni was eighth in the women's 200 (26.10 seconds), Miller was eighth in the women's 400 (58.47 seconds) and sophomore Johannah Stefanek was eighth in the women's mile (5:15.77).
