AU Men, Women Add Seven Provisionals To Early Outdoor Total

A successful trip to the Weems Baskin Invitational in Columbia, S.C., for the Ashland University men's and women's outdoor track and field teams concluded on Saturday (March 24) with seven more provisional efforts for 2018 NCAA Division II outdoor nationals, May 24-26 in Charlotte, N.C.

In the women's shot put invitational category, senior Megan Tomei made a successful return to action by placing second at 15.44 meters/50-feet-8, just 0.24 meters away from an automatic nationals qualification. Redshirt freshman Gianna DiPippo was ninth at 13.87 meters/45-feet-6¼.

The men's discus throw invitational event saw sophomore Alex Hill take second place at 50.30 meters/165-feet-0. In the men's shot put invite, senior Elijah Talk was fourth (17.03 meters/55-feet-10½), while sophomore Jake Glass placed eighth (16.43 meters/53-feet-11).

In the women's high jump invite, senior Hannah Bartlome tied for third at 1.64 meters/5-feet-4½.

Finally, freshman Trevor Bassitt turned in a provisional time of 14.23 seconds in the men's 110-meter hurdle preliminaries, then bettered it by finishing fourth in the finals in 14.15 seconds.

UP NEXT: Friday (March 30) and Saturday (March 31) at the Wooster Invitational.
