All four of the initial 2018 outdoor Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference track and field Athletes of the Week compete for the Purple and Gold.

As announced by the GLIAC on Tuesday (March 27), Ashland University swept the following weekly awards – men's track athlete of the week (freshman Trevor Bassitt), men's field athlete of the week (sophomore Alex Hill), women's track athlete of the week (sophomore Gariana Bercheni) and women's field athlete of the week (senior Megan Tomei).

Bassitt finished fourth on Saturday (March 24) at the Weems Baskin Invitational in Columbia, S.C., in the men's 110-meter hurdles, turning in a provisional time of 14.15 seconds for 2018 NCAA Division II outdoor nationals, May 24-26 in Charlotte, N.C. Bassitt's time is fifth-best in the country in the early going outdoors.

Hill took second in the men's discus throw (50.30 meters/165-feet-0) and third in the men's hammer throw (63.11 meters/207-feet-0) in South Carolina. He is ranked No. 2 in the nation in the hammer, and No. 8 in the discus.

Over the weekend, Bercheni finished the women's 100 hurdles in 15.10 seconds, the women's 200 dash in 25.18 seconds and the 100 dash in 12.29 seconds.

Tomei made her return to competition after more than a year, and did so successfully. She finished second in the women's shot put at 15.44 meters/50-feet-8, and seventh in the women's hammer throw at 56.39 meters/185-feet-0. Tomei is second in the country in the shot put, and eighth in the nation in the hammer throw.

Ashland's men's and women will compete at the Wooster Invitational on Friday (March 30) and Saturday (March 31).
