Throwers Start Akron Quad With Four Nationals Marks

To begin the Northeast Ohio Quad at Akron on Friday (April 6), Ashland University's throwers picked up three improved and one new provisional mark for 2018 NCAA Division II outdoor nationals, May 24-26 in Charlotte, N.C.

Senior Elijah Talk turned in an improved provisional distance in the men's shot put, winning the event at 17.25 meters. Sophomore Alex Hill did the same in the men's hammer throw, finishing first at 63.54 meters.

Also in the men's hammer, freshman Brent Fairbanks took third at 56.78 meters, and junior Jim Toth was sixth with a new provisional mark of 55.20 meters.

In the women's hammer, junior Mackenzie Leigh was the runner-up at 56.83 meters, and junior Natalie Helenthal was third with an improved provisional toss of 55.55 meters.

Freshman Gianna DiPippo took third in the women's shot put at 13.40 meters.
