Ashland University junior Myles Pringle has a history of needing just the first meet of a new season to get on the nationals list.
While injury pushed that first meet of the 2018 outdoor campaign back to late Saturday (April 7) night at the 39th Sun Angel Track Classic in Tempe, Ariz., Pringle still wasted little time in qualifying for NCAA Division II nationals, May 24-26 in Charlotte, N.C.
Pringle crossed the finish line in the men's 400-meter dash in 45.57 seconds (fourth place) on Saturday night, breaking his own school record by .20 seconds, moving into the No. 1 spot in D-II this season, and automatically qualifying for nationals by .79 seconds.
Pringle also got closer to the top 10 in D-II outdoor men's 400 dash history, as the No. 10 spot is occupied by St. Augustine's Dane Hyatt at 45.41 seconds. He already has two of the top 10 D-II indoor men's 400 dash times in history.
Running in the 200 dash on Saturday, Pringle finished second in the primarily-NCAA Division I field at 21.23 seconds. That set a new outdoor PR, and provisionally qualified him for outdoor nationals.
