Eagle Men Continue To Climb Up Nationals Lists

At the Jesse Owens Classic at The Ohio State University on Saturday (April 21), three Ashland University men's throwers and an Eagle men's relay turned in nationals-worthy efforts.

In the chase to qualify for the 2018 NCAA Division II outdoor track nationals, May 24-26 in Charlotte, N.C., a pair of men's shot putters – senior Elijah Talk and sophomore Jake Glass – turned in season-best showings. Talk was fourth in the championship division at 17.94 meters/58-feet-10¼, while Glass was third in the open division at 17.26 meters/56-feet-7½.

Sophomore Alex Hill was sixth in the men's discus, improving his D-II standing with a top mark of 52.63 meters/172-feet-8.

In the men's 4x100-meter relay, Ashland's foursome of freshmen Kainnan Ramsey, Trevor Bassitt and T.J. Elliott, and junior Myles Pringle, finished in third place in 40.86 seconds for a new provisional time.

 

Youngsters Shine At Baldwin Wallace

On Saturday at the Baldwin Wallace Sparky Adams Invitational, Eagle men and women turned in numerous top-three placements.

Individual titles were earned by freshman Travis Moore in the men's 110 hurdles (15.20 seconds) and men's 400 hurdles (54.56 seconds), freshman Garrick Manning in the men's pole vault (4.35 meters/14-feet-3¼), sophomore Kyle D'Ambrosio in the men's triple jump (12.52 meters/41-feet-1), freshman Romi Smith in the women's javelin throw (41.12 meters/134-feet-11), and freshman Tracy Morgan in the women's 5,000 run (19:45.79).

Freshman Connor Ingram (4:08.05 in men's 1,500 run), sophomore Kyle Hutchinson (4.20 meters/13-feet-9¼ in men's pole vault), freshman Taylor Dziatczak (39.28 meters/128-feet-10 in the women's javelin throw) and the men's 4x4 relay team of sophomore Zach Zollinger, Moore, sophomore Brad Studenmund and senior Ryan VanCauwenbergh (3:25.45), all earned second-place finishes in their respective events.

Ashland athletes placing third were Zollinger in the men's 400 hurdles (57.62 seconds), Manning in the men's high jump (1.75 meters/5-feet-8¾), freshman Ian Johnson in the men's 800 run (1:57.26), and freshman Gabrielle Ewing in the women's pole vault (3.12 meters/10-feet-2¾).

UP NEXT: The ninth Ashland Alumni Open, Friday (April 27) and Saturday (April 28) at the Dwight Schar Athletic Complex.
