For the first time in her collegiate career, Ashland University junior Mackenzie Leigh has been named Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Women's Field Athlete of the Week.

As announced by the GLIAC on Tuesday (April 24) morning, Leigh garnered her initial GLIAC award after placing third in the women's hammer throw championship division at the Jesse Owens Track Classic at The Ohio State University on Friday (April 20).

Leigh's top heave of 58.60 meters/192-feet-3 is a career-long, the best in the GLIAC in the event this spring, and is eighth-best in NCAA Division II this season.

Leigh is the fourth Ashland women's thrower to earn GLIAC Women's Field Athlete of the Week honors this season, along with junior Natalie Helenthal (indoor Weeks 1 and 2), redshirt freshman Gianna DiPippo (indoor Week 7) and senior Megan Tomei (outdoor Week 1).

Ashland's men and women will play host to the ninth Ashland Alumni Open on Friday (April 27) and Saturday (April 28) at the Dwight Schar Athletic Complex. For more information on the Alumni Open, click HERE.
