On Thursday (May 31) afternoon, the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) named Ashland University sprints/hurdles coach Ernie Clark the 2018 NCAA Division II Men's Outdoor National Assistant Coach of the Year.
At the 2018 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships, Clark's pupils earned a pair of national championships – junior Myles Pringle in the men's 400-meter dash (45.35 seconds), and the quartet of freshmen Channing Phillips, Trevor Bassitt and T.J. Elliott, and Pringle, in the men's 4x400 relay (3:07.66). Pringle also placed eighth in the men's 200 dash (21.28 seconds) at nationals.
In addition, Bassitt (men's 110 hurdles) and sophomore Gariana Bercheni (women's 200 dash) each qualified for nationals in their respective events.
Clark, finishing his third season at Ashland, is a two-time USTFCCCA Midwest Region Outdoor Assistant Coach of the Year (2017-18).
