Former Ashland University All-American Katie Nageotte finished off an impressive week for current and former Eagles at the 2018 USATF Outdoor Championships in Des Moines, Iowa, on Sunday (June 24).
Competing in the women's pole vault on Sunday at Drake University, Nageotte finished in second place with a top effort of 4.70 meters/15-feet-5. That distance is just shy of her career best outdoors in the event – 4.73 meters/15-feet-6¼ in 2017 in Germany.
After passing on the first height of 4.30 meters/14-feet-1¼, Nageotte was the only competitor to clear the next height of 4.45 meters/14-feet-7¼ on the first attempt, among those who didn't pass there, as well. She cleared 4.55 meters/14-feet-11 on her second try, passed at 4.60 meters/15-feet-1, needed just one attempt to clear 4.65 meters/15-feet-3, then vaulted 4.70 meters/15-feet-5 on her third and final try.
Nageotte missed on her first attempt at 4.75 meters/15-feet-7, then passed on the other two. At 4.80 meters/15-feet-9, she did the same thing, then missed on her attempt at 4.85 meters/15-feet-11.
Nageotte won two NCAA Division II national championships in the pole vault in 2013 – one indoors and one outdoors, and was a three-time All-American at Ashland. In February, she moved into fourth place on the all-time world indoor women's pole vaulter list at 4.91 meters/16-feet-1¼.
