On Saturday (Aug. 11), at the 2018 North American, Central American and Caribbean Athletic Association (NACAC) Track & Field Championships at Varsity Stadium in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, former Ashland University All-American Katie Nageotte set a new meet record and tied a lifetime outdoor best in earning a gold medal in the women's pole vault.
Nageotte was the only competitor to clear 4.75 meters on Saturday. In June, she finished second at the 2018 USATF Outdoor Championships in the women's pole vault, clearing 4.70 meters. Nageotte originally set her outdoor best of 4.75 meters in July in Monaco.
Nageotte won two NCAA Division II national championships in the pole vault in 2013 – one indoors and one outdoors, and was a three-time All-American at Ashland. In February, she moved into fourth place on the all-time world indoor women's pole vaulter list at 4.91 meters/16-feet-1¼.
In the finals of the men's 400-meter dash on Saturday in Toronto, Ashland University senior Myles Pringle placed fourth in a time of 45.99 seconds. In Friday's (Aug. 10) semifinals, Pringle paced the entire field with a finish of 46.28 seconds to advance to Saturday's finals.
Pringle unofficially is the fastest men's 400 dash runner in the history of NCAA Division II indoor competition at 45.93 seconds (unofficial because it came on an oversized track). In his Eagle career, Pringle has a total of five national championships and 14 All-American awards.
Last month, Pringle landed in Sports Illustrated in the "Faces in the Crowd" section. In June, he advanced to the finals of the men's 400 dash at the 2018 USATF Outdoor Championships, finishing eighth in 45.92 seconds.
Both Nageotte and Pringle were competing for Team USA during the NACAC meet.
