The original plan was for senior Myles Pringle to wait to make his season debut until January.

Plans change – and moving the start of Pringle's final indoor season at Ashland University to Friday (Dec. 7) at the Youngstown State Icebreaker proved to be wise.

Pringle won both the men's 400-meter dash and men's high jump on Friday – breaking facility records and automatically qualifying for 2019 indoor nationals in both events in the process. Pringle crossed the 400 finish line in 46.14 seconds, and ended the high jump at a school-record 2.19 meters/7-feet-2¼.

According to the International Association of Athletics Federations web site (iaaf.org), Pringle now leads the world in the early 2018-19 indoor season in the men's 400 dash, and is third in the world in the men's high jump.

There were three AU automatic marks for D-II indoor nationals, March 8-9 at Pittsburg State (Kan.), on Friday, and the third was turned in by sophomore Trevor Bassitt in the men's 60 hurdles. Bassitt's prelim time was 7.93 seconds, then he placed second in the finals in an auto time of 7.90 seconds.

Ashland's men also earned three provisional nationals marks at YSU – sophomore Channing Phillips in the 400 dash (fourth place, 48.48 seconds), freshman Tim Rumas in the 200 dash (second, 21.67 seconds), and the 4x400 relay team of Phillips, junior Brad Studenmund, Bassitt and freshman Brayden Chaney (second, 3:15.43).

On the women's side, sophomore Miyuki Sugiyama earned a provisional nationals mark in winning the triple jump at 11.91 meters/39-feet-1.

In the women's high jump, junior Ellie Jindra took second place at 1.65 meters/5-feet-5.

Ashland's throwers will compete on Saturday (Dec. 8) at the Findlay Oiler Opener. The entire squad will return from Christmas/New Year's break and go back to Findlay for its Open on Jan. 12.
