Ashland University's men's and women's indoor track and field teams are off to an impressive start in 2018-19.

The Eagle men and women also are in good shape where the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) national preseason rankings are concerned. Released on Tuesday (Dec. 11) afternoon, AU's men are No. 4 in the country, and AU's women are No. 7.

Ashland's men have 128.80 computer points in the preseason rankings, trailing only Adams State (178.43), Colorado Mines (167.76) and Tiffin (140.07). This is the seventh time this decade that they have been in the top four in the nation in the indoor preseason rankings.

The Eagle women have 75.87 computer points, behind just Grand Valley State (174.24), Lincoln, Mo. (138.69), Adams State (128.73), West Texas A&M (97.73), Azusa Pacific (96.92) and Lewis (82.30). Ashland's women have earned their highest indoor ranking from the USTFCCCA since the preseason of 2016-17 (sixth).

Combined, the Eagle men and women have earned six automatic and 20 provisional marks for 2019 D-II indoor nationals, March 8-9 at Pittsburg State (Kan.). Leading the nation in their respective events are senior Myles Pringle in the men's 400-meter dash (46.14 seconds), sophomore Trevor Bassitt in the men's 60-meter hurdles (7.90 seconds), redshirt freshman Lindsay Baker in the women's shot put (16.73 meters/54-feet-10¾), and sophomore Brent Fairbanks in the men's weight throw (21.62 meters/70-feet-11¼).

Ashland's men and women will return from Christmas/New Year's break and go to Findlay for its Open on Jan. 12.
