Ashland University's indoor track and field teams are making earning weekly honors from the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference quite the habit.

On Tuesday (Jan. 22) morning, the GLIAC announced Eagle sophomores Trevor Bassitt and Brent Fairbanks as the conference's Week 4 Male Running and Field Athletes of the Week, respectively. For Bassitt, it is his first GLIAC award of the season and second of his career; for Fairbanks, his second this season and as an Eagle.

At the Youngstown State College Invite on Friday (Jan. 18), Bassitt won the men's 200-meter dash in a Watson and Tressel Training Site (WATTS)-record 21.35 seconds, the men's 60 hurdles in 7.96 seconds, and was part of the winning men's 4x400 relay team which crossed the finish line in 3:16.10. The 200 dash time is No. 3 in NCAA Division II so far in 2018-19.

Also at YSU, Fairbanks won the men's weight throw with a top heave of 21.91 meters/71-feet-10¾, also a facility record. Fairbanks leads D-II in the event so far this season.

In just four weeks of the 2018-19 indoor track and field campaign, Ashland's men's and women's teams have earned eight GLIAC Athlete of the Week honors.

The end of January will see the Eagle men and women going two different places on Friday and Saturday (Jan. 25-26) – the Penn Nationals and the Findlay Alumni Classic.
