In the latest U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) NCAA Division II computer rankings, released on Tuesday (Feb. 19) afternoon, both of Ashland University's indoor track and field teams remain in the top 10 in the nation.
Heading into the 2019 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championships on Saturday (Feb. 23) and Sunday (Feb. 24) at Saginaw Valley State, the Eagle men maintain their spot at No. 2 in the country, while the Eagle women move down one spot to No. 10. With 154.75 computer points, AU's men trail only Adams State (198.74), and out-distance both Grand Valley State (121.61) and Tiffin (106.89).
As has been the case for most of the indoor season, most of Ashland's men's points come from seven spots – senior Myles Pringle in the high jump (20.60) and 400-meter dash (23.49), sophomore Trevor Bassitt in the 60 hurdles (20.17) and 200 dash (17.44), and three weight throwers in sophomore Brent Fairbanks (24.22) and juniors Alex Hill (18.65) and Nick Zak (15.66).
And, as has been the case on the women's side, the two top AU individuals in terms of computer points are redshirt freshman Lindsay Baker in the shot put (24.69) and senior Natalie Helenthal (20.52) in the weight throw.
Qualifiers from both the Ashland men's and women's teams will compete at NCAA Division II indoor nationals on March 8-9 at Pittsburg State (Kan.).
