Eagle Men, Women Open Outdoor Season In S.C.

Eager to begin the 2019 outdoor season after the success of the most recent indoor campaign, Ashland University's men's and women's track and field teams competed on Day 1 of the Winthrop Adidas Invitational in Rock Hill, S.C., on Friday (March 22).

Among the combined six provisional marks for 2019 NCAA Division II Outdoor Championships (May 23-25 in Kingsville, Texas) were three Eagle women's hammer throwers. Senior Mackenzie Leigh was second at 57.59 meters/188-feet-11, senior Natalie Helenthal took third at 55.59 meters/182-feet-4, and redshirt freshman Lindsay Baker was fifth at 54.08 meters/177-feet-5.

Baker earned a second provo mark in winning the women's shot put at 14.95 meters/49-feet-0¾, while junior Ellie Jindra provisionaled and won the women's high jump at 1.70 meters/5-feet-7.

On the men's side, junior Jake Glass won the shot put with a provo distance of 17.06 meters/55-feet-11¾, and sophomore David Amstutz took third at 16.14 meters/52-feet-11½.

The second and final day of the Winthrop Adidas Invitational will be Saturday (March 23) at 9 a.m.
