Eagles Add To Early Outdoor Provos Tally

On Day 2 of the Winthrop Adidas Invitational in Rock Hill, S.C., on Saturday (March 23), Ashland University's men's and women's outdoor track and field teams continued to pile up the early-season provisional marks for 2019 NCAA Division II nationals (May 23-25 in Kingsville, Texas).

Leading the way in the provisional department on Saturday were four Eagle men's hammer throwers – juniors Alex Hill (second place, 64.14 meters/210-feet-5) and Nick Zak (third, 61.37 meters/201-feet-4), sophomore Brent Fairbanks (fourth, 58.73 meters/192-feet-8), and senior Jim Toth (sixth, 56.65 meters/185-feet-10).

Hill also won and earned a provisional mark in the men's discus at 52.36 meters/171-feet-9.

On the women's side, the redshirt freshman duo of Lindsay Baker (third, 47.07 meters/154-feet-5) and Makayla Pop (fourth, 46.21 meters/151-feet-7) each earned provisional distances.

Sophomore Ian Johnson won two events, the men's 800-meter run (1:55.18) and men's 1,500 run (4:02.72). Sophomore Sam Shockey was second in the 800 run (1:55.92), while Toth was runner-up in the men's discus (48.49 meters/159-feet-1).

Ashland's men and women will have a split weekend coming up – Friday and Saturday (March 29-30) at both the Wooster Invitational and Raleigh (N.C.) Relays.
