Ashland University's women's and men's outdoor track and field teams weren't in the first U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) rankings of the new season last week.

They certainly are this week, as the Eagle women come in at No. 9, and the AU men move into the No. 12 spot. Ashland's women have 100.93 computer points (No. 1 Angelo State is at 183.99), and the AU men have 77.74 (No. 1 Angelo State is at 158.52).

For the Ashland women, this is their highest ranking outdoors since its seventh-place finish at 2015 nationals. The top point-earners last weekend at the Adidas Winthrop Invitational were senior hammer throwers Mackenzie Leigh (22.50) and Natalie Helenthal (18.81), redshirt freshman Lindsay Baker in the shot put (16.80), junior Ellie Jindra in the high jump (16.08), and Baker in the hammer throw (13.78).

The Eagle men are paced through one meet by junior hammer throwers Alex Hill (22.49) and Nick Zak (16.64).

Ashland's men and women will go on Friday and Saturday (March 29-30) to the Wooster Invitational.
